Mystic Temples & Unique Sense of Time

When people think of Cambodia, the first thing that comes to mind is usually the image of the three towers of the famous Angkor Wat temple. But Cambodia presents much more than just the fascinating Angkor Archaeological Park. The country has a lot to offer in history, landscape and culture.

Siem Reap and Phnom Penh are the country’s two biggest cities with much to discover culturally and historically, where ancient world and modern world collide to create an authentic adventure. For nature and beach lovers, the island paradises of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem are perfect for relaxing, while the national parks invite you to go hiking and admire their waterfalls. Tonle Sap freshwater lake with floating fishing villages, together with the pepper plantations in the seaside town of Kampot and the famous crab fishing village in Kep offers unique opportunities to observe and experience local life and culture.

Cambodia’s long history and diverse range of influences is reflected in its cuisine, which has been largely kept within the country’s borders. The most known Cambodian food is probably Amok – a traditional Khmer curry dish with coconut milk and a local herb called slok ngor, which adds a subtly bitter flavor and differentiates Amok from the similar curries found in the neighboring countries. Less known but arguably the national dish of Cambodia is Samlar Kakou, a curry-based soup with seasonal vegetables and fermented fish. Another Khmer specialty is Lok Lak, traditionally made from beef, fried in special sauce, served on lettuce leaves and onion bed. If you are an adventurous foodie, try the deep fried crickets and other creepy-crawlies snacks in the markets in Cambodia.
